Vaporwave is a music genre that became a visual aesthetic โ pastel pinks and cyans, Greco-Roman statues, Japanese characters, glitchy chrome type, and faded 1990s shopping-mall imagery, all assembled with intentional irony. It originated on Tumblr in the early 2010s and is now the default look for nostalgia-themed indie sites, Bandcamp pages, NFT projects, and merch drops.
Background combines large pastel radial gradients (hot pink + cyan blooms on a marble-cream base) with a faint scanline overlay (repeating-linear-gradient at very low opacity). Typography uses a condensed display sans (Anton, Bebas Neue) at huge sizes with multi-layered offset color shadows โ a magenta shadow + a cyan shadow at different offsets gives the chromatic-aberration look.
